LONDON WEATHER

With over 270 nationalities represented and 300 languages spoken, it’s easy to see why London is the capital of the world. As a recent New York Times article put, “Modern London is the metropolis that globalization created, and London is the banker to the planet”.
It’s hard not to find something to do in London. And if you ever find yourself stuck, you can always start with London’s pub culture. There were 7,000 pubs in London at last count. Each one with its own history and story to tell. They are public places for people to gather, eat, and drink. Don’t forget that famous pub saying, “One for the road”. You can’t rush a good pint – remember life’s a marathon, not a sprint.
If pubs aren’t your thing, you’re still spoilt for choice. With lots to do in London almost every day, it’s hard to pick which one to go for to satisfy your thirst (quite literally, too) for culture and excitement. London is full of cafes for the hipsters, clubs for the night-owls, museums for the cultured (they’re mostly free, thanks to the Arts Council), and food markets for those who live to eat. It would be impossible to name my favorites, but there are online magazines and mobile apps to feed your soul.

A plate with food mallow restaurant

Mallow

Named after a plant that is not only entirely edible, but flowers in the summer too, Mallow’s team serves up low-waste, seasonal dishes that are a reflection of its roots (and also happen to look pretty lovely, too)

Address:

Mallow, 1 Cathedral Street, London SE1 9DE

What I like about it

Mallow champions a conscious way of cooking, and has reframed our understanding of what it means to ‘eat out to help out’: even the surplus food at Mallow is redistributed to charities and food banks in the local area via Plan Zheroes.

Three plates with food on it

Jam Delish

Jam Delish is an independent family-owned Caribbean vegan restaurant and cocktail bar in Angel, Islington. Jam Delish serves vegan versions of curry goat, fish tacos, bacon mac ’n’ cheese, and jerk chicken

Address:

1 Tolpuddle St, London N1 0XT

What I like about it

A great place on a warm summer evening. Nourishing and full of vegetables, go to sample the set menu, or for a weekend brunch that includes plantain pancakes with whipped cream, fresh mango, toasted coconut and summer berries.

An orange square dessert

Gauthier

Created by Michelin-starred chef Alexis Gauthier, if you’re after a vegan fine dining experience in London, look no further than Gauthier. (Even Billie Eilish is a fan.) Gauthier manages to serve superb modern French cuisine without the lashings of butter and meat it’s best known for.

Address:

21 Romilly Street, London W1D 5AF

What I like about it

Fully plant-based since 2021, its seasonal five- or eight-course set menu might include the likes of brioche feuilletée with aromatic dal and roasted fennel with sea buckthorn.

Beautiful restaurant with plants hanging on the ceiling

Jacuzzi

Few places in London have a reputation as notorious as Big Mamma’s collection of extravagant Italian restaurants, Enter: Jacuzzi, a four-storey Sicilian mansion that’s taken over an old bank on Kensington High Street.

Address:

94 Kensington High Street, Kensington, W8 4SH

What I like about it

Expect indulgent creations served with embellished twists. Examples include a pizzette topped with caviar, truffle pasta with parmigiano foam served in a 4kg pecorino wheel and a shareable chocolate fondue made with half a kilo of Valorhona chocolate.

Three food bowls with smoke all around them

The Ivy Asia

The Ivy Asia takes you through a journey of the senses with a dining and drinking story inspired by Asian influence. The restaurants offer a luxurious and theatrical setting in both its design and décor.

Address:

1 Tolpuddle St, London N1 0XT

What I like about it

Having a restaurant with brilliant interior design adoesn’t really matter if the food doesn’t have the same appeal. No worries here though. The dishes have the same visual impact as the rest of the restaurant. The same impact can also be said for the taste.

Fancy restaurant with mythological statue on the ceiling

Bacchanalia, Mayfair

Bacchanalia takes its name from the mystery religion-cult of Ancient Rome, The sumptuous interiors cost £75 million pounds to create and the entire place is like a work of art.

Address:

21 Romilly Street, London W1D 5AF

What I like about it

The Bacchanalia is the most expensive restaurant in London. The lunch set menu which they serve from Monday to Friday from 12 pm – 4 pm. It’s £40 for two courses or £49 for three which is great value for money compared to the A La Carte options.
